Tracking Title Listings

The purpose of Tracking Tests is to evaluate a dog's ability to recognize and follow a scent trail. Yet such skills are also highly practical. Given their incredibly keen sense of smell, dogs excel at many activities based on tracking and scent work, including, search and rescue; tracking crime suspects; finding drugs, explosives, or contraband food and plant products; seeking out other animals and game; recovering lost objects; and identifying various medical conditions. Tracking tests are open to all dog breeds and mixed breeds. They are rigorous, outdoor, noncompetitive, pass/fail events.

AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB (AKC)

AKC tracking events are the competition form of canine search and rescue. Titling opportunities include: Tracking Dog (TD), Tracking Dog Excellent (TDX), Variable Surface Tracking (VST), and Champion Tracker (CT). All dogs who have earned a Champion Tracker (CT) title are invited to participate in the annual National Tracking Invitational . All tracking titles, except Champion Tracker (CT), Triple Champion (TC), and Versatile Companion Champion (VCCH), can be added after a dog’s name once they have been awarded. CT, TC, and VCCH are championship titles and are therefore listed before a dog’s name. For more information, contact the AKC at http://www.akc.org; tracking@akc.org; AKC Companion Events, 8051 Arco Corporate Drive, Suite 100, Raleigh, NC 27617-3390; or (919) 816-3521.
